Ancient Site of Dodona
The valley of Dodoni is a few kilometers away from Ioannina. There you can find the world-famous sanctuary of Dodoni.

According to historical references as well as findings from the Copper era the area was considered the birth-place of Greek-speaking tribes.
The sanctuary was devoted to Naios Dias. The most important monuments of the site are: TheSacred House, which was built around a holy oak tree called “Fyggos”, the theater, the Prytaneum and the Bouleuterion.
The majority of contructions were constructed during the rule of the king of Molossi, called king Pyrrhus. It was then that the sanctuary thrived.
Nowadays the ancient monument includes the ancient theater and the sacred house of Manteio and it is protected by UNESCO.
